सुदामा और कृष्ण की दोस्ती की मिशाल तो लोग आज भी देते हैं। उनकी दोस्ती की कहानियां आप सभी बचपन से सुनते आए हैं। कृष्ण सुदामा की दोस्ती हमेशा से ही बहुत खूबसूरत और मजबूत मानी गई है। लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं सुदामा का वध भगवान शिव ने किया था जी हां यह एक ऐसा लाइन है जिसे ना तो झूठलाया जा सकता है और ना ही सच माना जा सकता है। लेकिन यह एक ऐसा सच है जिसे ना मानने का कोई सवाल ही पैदा नहीं होता है। यह कहानी उनके पुनर्जन्म से जुड़ी हुई है जब भगवान शिव ने सुदामा को अपने हाथों से मृत्युदंड दिया था।

दरअसल सुदामा की मृत्यु के बाद उनका वास स्वर्ग लोक में ही था और उस समय वहां पर बिराजा भी रहा करती थी। सुदामा बिराजा से बहुत प्रेम किया करते थे लेकिन विराजा को कृष्ण से प्रेम था। सुदामा के राजा को शुरू से ही पसंद किया करते थे लेकिन बिराजा ने हमेशा कृष्ण को प्रेम नजर से देखा था। एक दिन बिराजा भगवान कृष्ण के प्रेम में लीन थी उस समय राधा जी वहां पर प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने यह देखा उसके बाद उन्होंने सुदामा को पृथ्वी पर बात करने का श्राप दिया और साथ ही विराजा को भी पृथ्वी लोक पर जन्म लेने का श्राप दिया। उसके बाद उन दोनों का पुनर्जन्म पृथ्वी पर हुआ।

सुदामा का जन्म शंख चूर्ण नाम के एक राजा के रूप में हुआ वहीं बिराजा आने तुलसी नामक स्त्री के रूप में जन्म लिया। इस जन्म में दोनों का विवाह हुआ और भगवान की कृपा से शंख चूर्ण को यह वरदान प्राप्त था कि जब तक तुलसी का विश्वास शंख चूर्ण बना रहेगा तब तक शंख चूर्ण को युद्ध में कोई नहीं हरा सकता है। यह वरदान उन्हें ब्रह्मा द्वारा दिया गया था और इसके साथ उन्हें एक कवच भी प्राप्त हुआ था।

इसी कारण शंख चूर्ण के पृथ्वी पर अत्याचार बढ़ते गए और उन्होंने सभी राज्यों पर आक्रमण कर उन्हें अपने अधीन कर लिया था। उनकी ऐसे अत्याचारों से देवता भी परेशान हो गए थे तब उन्होंने भगवान शिव से जाकर प्रार्थना की भगवान शिव ने शंख चूर्ण को मृत्युदंड दिया। इस तरह उन्होंने सुदामा के पुनर्जन्म के अवतार को मृत्युदंड दिया। शंख जून को अपनी शक्ति पर बहुत घमंड था इसलिए उसने भगवान शिव से युद्ध किया जिसमें वह परास्त हुआ और मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुआ। इसका संपूर्ण विवरण हमारे ग्रंथों में दिया गया है।
