उनके अनुसार किसी भी रिश्ते की पहचान धन के आने-जाने के साथ होती है। वो कहते हैं कि धन संपत्ति खोने समय ही रिश्तों की असली परख होती है। आचार्य के मुताबिक लोगों को ऐसे धन का तुरंत त्याग कर देना चाहिए जिसके लिए वो अपने धर्म का पालन न कर पाएं, उन्हें किसी की खुशामद करनी पड़े या गलत रास्ते पर जाना पड़े। चाणक्य नीति में बताया गया है कि जिनके मन में दयालुता का भाव होता है, वे मन के बहुत सच्चे होते हैं। ऐसी मान्यता है कि इनकी सच्चाई के कारण माता महालक्ष्मी की कृपा इन लोगों पर सदैव बरसती है।
